Nice weekend.. showers moving in Monday

A beautiful weekend out there as the remnants of the massive upper ridge that gave record breaking warm temperatures over Alberta and western SK moves over Manitoba. We won't get quite as warm as the 25-29C readings enjoyed to our west this past week, however we will get into the mid to upper teens with plenty of sunshine both today and Sunday along with brisk south to southeast winds. Look for clouds to move in by Monday with rain developing as a frontal trough moves in from the west. Right now, rain amounts look to be in the 5-15 mm range for Winnipeg and the Red River valley, but local amounts of up to 25 mm are being hinted at by some models.

  1. If you go to TWN's 14-day trend, you can see that they are forecasting SNOW! But it is far out in the future, so they might change it. Do the models show a possibility of that Rob?

  2. Maybe we will have a repeat of last year! On Thanksgiving day, in the evening, snowflakes were flying at my house. Many other locations in South-Eastern Manitoba saw snowflakes for the first time as well!

  3. Looks like a general 20 mm rainfall throughout Southern Manitoba with the system coming in overnight!!

  4. Looks like the long range models are showing sign of a strong storm system south of the border with a very cold air wrapping in around the system!
Looks like next weekend could be on the chilly side
I mean look at Calgary "High" On Friday....

  6. MAJOR snowstorm in the forecast for South-Eastern Saskatchewan, possibly into South-Western Manitoba.

If this system moves farther East than expected we could see 20 to 30cm of snow. In SK it is currently looking like they could see 20 to 30cm of snow, assuming most of it won't melt on contact.

Will it be a white Thanksgiving?

  7. White Thanksgiving certainly possible over portions of southern SK. Models may be overdoing precipitation amounts in the cold air with this system, but 5-10 cm possible at this point for parts of southern SK Saturday night into Sunday, especially over the higher elevations south of Moose Jaw where amounts could be in the 10-20 cm range. I recall a White Thanksgiving in SK back in 1998 when 25-50 cm fell from Saskatoon to Prince Albert areas.
