Yesterday's high of +6.7C at Winnipeg airport was Winnipeg's third warmest January day on record, tied with the 6.7C on Jan 22 1942. Only 2 January days have been warmer than yesterday in Winnipeg.. Jan 11 1986 at 7.3C, and Jan 23 1942 at 7.8C. Official temperature records in Winnipeg began in 1872.
How close did Winnipeg airport get to setting an all time January high yesterday? Temperatures up to 8C were recorded just outside the Perimeter in Headingley and St Norbert, with 9C in Sanford and Starbuck, 10C in Brunkild, and 11c in Sperling and Elm Creek. (See CWB mesonet temperature plot image above for 3 pm temperatures yesterday, as well as MB ag-wx mesonet summary) My station in SW Winnipeg registered a high of +7.4C, while the Forks hit +7.6C. So the airport was literally just 10 miles away from all time high status. Regardless, a spectacular January day (if you're not crazy about cold weather).
Picked up 1 mm of rare January rain overnight. With some snow and sub freezing temperatures today, things may get a bit slick on the roads today.. caution if out and about today.ReplyDelete
The rain and mild temperatures have really put a dent in the snowpack.. I'm down to only 1 or 2 cm on my lawn with patches of grass showing up again, while snow cover is pretty much gone south and west of the city.ReplyDelete
Can someone tell me what the low was in Winnipeg yesterday, so that I can calculate the meant?ReplyDelete
Surely it wasn't -6.2 as estimated on the hourly EnvCan site....thanks
Rob how much snow can Winnipeg expect today?ReplyDelete
The hourly site was just updated....-5.2 is the low for jan 5.ReplyDelete
Wow! That means we not only broke the daily high maximum temperature record for January 5, we also broke the daily high minimum temperature record for January 5 as well.ReplyDelete
There's a good swath of steady snow from Winnipeg northward, which is gradually sinking south and east. I would expect maybe a cm or two at most for Winnipeg, with slightly higher amounts possible to our north and east.
2 cm of fresh snow at my place now. What a change from yesterday!ReplyDelete
Still snowing pretty good. Maybe 2 more cm?ReplyDelete
Looking at the radar it looks like its starting to slow down.ReplyDelete
Measured about 3.5-4 cm of snow as of 3:30 pm in Charleswood.. a little more than I was expecting today. In fact, this is the single largest snowfall we've had in Winnipeg in 6 weeks.. when we got 6 cm during the night of Nov 25th.ReplyDelete
