Fabulous start to October..

October is starting off in fine form with plenty of sunshine and above normal temperatures this week. Temperatures are expected to be at or above the 20C mark through Friday, and possibly though next weekend with no significant rainfall through the period. Winnipeg hit the 20C mark only 4 times in September, and it looks like that number for October may be surpassed by the end of the week! Long range models are indicating the current weather pattern is expected to persist into early next week before a shift towards cooler temperatures and possible showers by the middle of next week. Until then.. enjoy our belated September weather!

  1. Models are backing off on that cooling trend for next week, and instead hold the dry and warm weather pattern into the middle of October. I'm OK with that!

  2. Great October 63 like forecasts.

With one exception, 25 consecutive days of 15.0C including 7 days 25.0 would be more than welcome. And less than 1mm of rain in that Oct 63 streak!

  3. Wow is it ever windy here on the north side of the city near Perimeter and #8. The wind is just rockin and howling.

  5. Rob!
If we were to hit 26 C on Friday as forecast would that be record territory???

  6. This is fabulous. I'm outside painting these days. This is also perfect for our farmers to hold a harvesting event.

I found this quote from our river forecaster which I think will replace "it's deja vu all over again."

"It seems as if we've had showers come one after another in succession."

  8. Record high in Winnipeg for Friday Oct 8th is 27.4C in 2003.. we'll come close, but we'd have to get a westerly wind to have a good chance of beating it, and it looks like we'll have a light southeast wind. Still, I think we have a good shot at 25C Friday which we didn't reach all of September! It will also mark our 5th day in a row of 20C plus temps.. beating the total number of 20C days for all of September.

As for this weekend, models have picked up on the fact that it's a holiday weekend, so they've changed their dry outlook to something a little more unsettled with an upper low tracking across the Dakotas. The majority of models are showing most of the shower activity staying south of the border with the upper low, so we may escape precipitation here in southern MB.

  9. Very NICE day out there today!
Not a cloud in the sky!

I think we have a good shot at hitting 27 C tomorrow!

Even warmer 850 mb temperatures are heading in for tomorrow!

  10. Those gentle winds this morning made for excellent golfing conditions. Unusual to have such light winds and warm weather at this time of year

  11. A high of 23.7C at YWG airport so far today.. which makes today warmer than any day in September! Looks like we stay in the 20s through Monday, then we cool down by Tuesday as a cold front pushes through. 7 straight days above 20C in October.. love it!
