A storm system developing in Colorado will track into Minnesota on Sunday bringing an area of rain into southern MB Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. Rain will likely change to wet snow Sunday night as colder air works into the backside of the storm system, with some accumulations possible by Monday morning (5 cm or less). The bulk of precipitation with this system is expected to hit the southern Red River valley and southeast MB where 5-10 mm is possible, while amounts of 10-20 mm are possible through the Red River valley of North Dakota. This system will pull out of the area on Monday but cooler than normal weather is likely through the rest of next week as cool high pressure remains entrenched across the Prairies while a stubborn storm track brings periodic rain or snow south of the border.
Large area of rain has developed south of the border but it seems to be drying up as it enters southern Manitoba!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like parts of Kansas and Oklahoma are under the gun for a major outbreak of tornado with major hail expected....
Just thought that I would point out that "tornadovideos.net" have a very good site with live steaming video from all the storm chasers along with awesome radar!!!
Rain slowly spreading into southern MB.. although very dry air over southern MB (RH = 25%) is preventing much of it from reaching the ground. Still, we should see rain gradually making it to the ground by evening, with a changeover to wet snow possible by midnight. Bulk of pcpn still expected mainly south and east of Winnipeg (10 mm or so), but we may get a few mm tonight mixing with some wet snow overnight.
ReplyDeleteRain has changed to wet snow this evening near the Ontario and US borders. May pick up a slushy 2 cm or so tonight in those areas..
ReplyDeleteRain changed to snow from Cooperstown to Grand Forks into the Roseau-Warroad-Baudette areas quickly between 8 and 9 pm Sun night. Got a nice covering on the grass in Grand Forks and likely around 1 to 1.5 inches in a narrow area to the north of Thief River into a part of eastern Marshall county MN and eastern Roseau co.
ReplyDeleteOh Rob...by the way I made several of your model data and observation data links avbl to the staff here...especially your links to PASPC Winnipeg text products and to the CWB and AG wx stations.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comprehensive site.
Hi Dan..
ReplyDeleteYes, I saw some of the white stuff on the Grand Forks webcam.. getting too late in the year for this!
Glad you can use some of my links to help you guys out.
Jim..
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping that May will end up warmer than 1979 as well.. but it's going to require a major turnaround in the overall pattern as we remain below normal through the first week at least. We can't seem to shake this persistent trof over the Prairies this spring.
Does this have the potential to provide the QPF that occurred in the first week of May 1950 50mm (2 inches) in 2 days followed by another 25mm (1 inch) 2 days later. (3 inch total in 6 days)
ReplyDeleteThe temps and cold wet weather are certainly similar.
