More rain on the way..

A large area of rain associated with showers and thunderstorms that fired up over the Dakotas overnight is spreading over southern Manitoba and the Red River valley this morning. The main area of rain should be spreading into Winnipeg by mid morning, with about 5-10 mm of rain through midday before tapering off to a few scattered showers this afternoon. Additional showers are possible later this afternoon into this evening with a chance of thunderstorms as the main storm system pushes towards the international border.  Showers should taper off overnight but are likely to move back in Monday afternoon and night as an upper low tracks across southern MB.  Temperatures will continue to run some 10C below normal today and Monday. All in all, a rather dreary forecast for the next few days before we see a turnaround later in the week.

  3. Well defined upper low on satellite imagery between Estevan and Melita tracking slowly eastward along intl border. A band of showers developing over SW MB to the northeast of upper low but bulk of precip occurring on backside of low. Should see some activity pushing into RRV this evening and overnight with another 5 mm possible.. perhaps 10 mm under heavier bands. We then turn cooler for Tuesday... (yes, cooler).. before finally getting into a drier and warming trend starting Wednesday. We are way overdue for a nice stretch of weather.. haven't seen a string of nice days here since May 8 - 18th. Really could use some sunshine now.

  4. East-west band of convection has developed across Winnipeg giving some moderate to heavy rain this evening. Band is basically stationary along the TransCanada corridor from Winnipeg to Portage so rainfall could be locally heavy within this band. I've picked up 10 mm in 30 minutes since 6 pm with peak rainfall intensity of 36 mm/hr so far. Could be looking at another 15-25 mm or so along this slow moving band. Over 100 mm for the month now and counting... Enough already.. I want those drought conditions back!!

  9. Dew or frost tonight? Dewpoints are staying above freezing but temps dropping steadily this evening under clear skies and light winds. Temp down to +4c at my place as of 11 pm, but dewpoint is +2. Very damp out there with all the recent rain... hopefully the humidity will save us from a frost in the morning.. but I did cover some of the more tender plants this evening just in case.

  10. Mark... Today's 6-10 day and 8-14 day outlooks from CPC both show above normal temps through the Northern plains and southern MB which is a shift west from the previous outlooks. Hopeful sign for a return to warmer and drier weather again..
