After the deluge.. turning warm and dry through the end of September..

After Tuesday's soaking rains which brought 25 to 75 mm of rain to the RRV, conditions will be turning dry and warmer the rest of this week through the weekend and into next week. A large upper ridge of high pressure will build over the Prairies bringing a prolonged stretch of sunny dry and warm weather over central Canada over the next week or so, including southern Manitoba. After a frosty night tonight, temperatures will rebound into the mid teens Thursday with light winds, then into the mid 20s over the weekend as warmer air spreads in. Long range models are indicating the dry and warm weather should continue over southern Manitoba through the end of the month. Fall officially arrives this Friday, so it looks like a nice warm and dry start to autumn. Enjoy!

They have some very good time lapse videos from the international space station of thunderstorms and the northern lights! Check it out!

  6. After such a dry summer could these rains be a sign that we will be getting a lot of show this winter?

  9. Thanks for the bday wishes daniel and others. Answering your question I got a Weather almanac that I can use for seeing ahead even though that they aren't that accurate. I also got a cell phone from MTS a student plan. I also got a camera to capture memories and some summer storms. Even Armin Van buurens latest cd called mirage. So I had a very good bday.
The weather looks nice for the weekend, I normally get t-storms on Sept 23rd days. But I take what we get! that sunrise this morn was good.

  15. Good luck with the move! don't worry about the blog much as our storm season has ended, and not much in the way of weather over the next few weeks, except for the odd rainy day. TTYL.

  16. some nice isolated thunderstorms going on in southern ontario, as of this hour. It looks like its there turn. I read the forecast discussion from SPCO in ontario. there really isn't much potential for severe storms as they have been under cloud cover for most of the day, with relatively low cape values and bulk shear. So the weather isn't much different than what we have here except for a thunderstorm that hit london at 7EDT.

Oh boy, I can hardly wait....

On the NWS Grand Forks home page there is talk that a Geomagnetic storm gave us a near miss, still some concern on the power grid in some areas!!

  19. All the trees around my place are still green, and half the forest nearby as well. Can't believe it's almost October, and many trees have barely begun changing.

  20. EC Mentioning a risk for thunderstorms in the central regions of the province today as LI reaches -3 and CAPE Values at 200-300J/KG. I don't expect to see them become severe as the shear values lack, and the humidity will be somewhat low. The chance for storms for us comes this evening into tonight. I will have more details a little later, Stay tuned.

  24. September 2 years ago was hot even! Sure enjoying this one though, and October looks to be starting with great weather! Hope it lasts!

  25. Jim..

Yes, Sept 2009 was the warmest September on record.. and was actually the warmest month of the whole year that year.

Nice to have the nice weather continue into early October.. staying above normal into next week. Not sure we'll see that high of 29C Sunday here in Winnipeg with warm front just to our south along US border. We may be in low 20s instead with an easterly wind unless front pushes north a little more. Mid to upper 20s more likely over southern RRV and ND. Still nice though..

  26. beautiful weather ahead, although I think EC is going a little bit overboard with a forecast high of 29C on sunday, a little late for october.Ill look at the 850mb temps and see what I come up with. On the other side we need some rain to make sure we keep our soil healthy, the GEM Model is pointing to a significant rain system on thursday and friday. We might be able to see some thunderstorms as well depending on our temperature, looking on those days thur and fri highs of 26 and 25. So Ill keep everyone up to date including rob.
