Showers/thunderstorms possible tonight.. clearing and warmer for remainder of holiday weekend. Cooler conditions for back to school..

A warm front along the international border will push northward across southern Manitoba tonight bringing a threat of showers and thunderstorms, mainly across the south this evening pushing into the Interlake areas overnight. This activity will move into northern Manitoba and northwest Ontario Sunday morning, with a clearing trend over southern Manitoba.  This will allow temperatures to rise to the 30C mark once again over the Red River valley with sunshine and a southwest breeze. Sunny and warm conditions are expected to continue into holiday Monday with temperatures again near the 30C mark. Cooler conditions are forecast for the remainder of the week as an upper trof pushes across the Prairies, with temperatures more typical for early September (highs near 21c) along with partly cloudy skies and a threat of showers by mid week.

  1. Some strange formatting issues with my blog.. not sure what happened, but I can't seem to get back to the way it was. Will try to investigate further, but just so you know.. this new blog setup was not my doing!

  2. I don't see anything different Rob (not since that major change several months ago anyway).

Well, we're obviously in the fall forecast season. It seems everyone is having a hard time making up their minds (including the models). A source even has one forecast in their text writeup, and another forecast 4C cooler in their graphical product. Covering their bases I guess. LOL

  3. Anonymous.. good to know, hopefully it's just an issue with my local network. Archive and news feeds on my blog all appear on the bottom now instead of along the right hand side.

  4. Yikes. Even for today I'm seeing everything from 31C and dry to 26C with about 14mm of rain.

Welcome to the wonderful world of meteorology! Not always cut and dry, in fact.. quite often. Most likely outcome today will be something in between those two forecasts. So what is the most likely outcome for today? Well first, satellite imagery shows a lot of mid level cloud streaming up from our southwest, so we'll be cloudy for awhile. So 31C is unlikely unless we get a lot of clearing by midday. If we get some sunny breaks in the afternoon, upper 20s looks likely given the warm air aloft and SW flow, but if is stays cloudy all day.. 26C looks reasonable. Radar shows some weak showers to our southwest as well, so we could be seeing a shower today although amounts don't look like much as the echoes are weak, and will likely dissipate as the day wears on. So 14 mm of rain looks doubtful. Put it all together and you get a forecast like.. Mainly cloudy with a chance of showers today. High near 27C.

  6. Yes, 31C is likely a stretch for both today and tomorrow.

  7. Blog format issue only seems to be from workplace computers.. everywhere else format appears to be unaffected. Odd..

Band of showers from Portage to Pilot Mound moving to the northeast. Temperature popped up to 26C in Winnipeg with some sunshine breaking through, but look for more clouds and some scattered showers moving in from the southwest this afternoon.

  8. Maybe your work's proxy server is serving up an old cached version of something like the CSS style page, which would cause formatting issues if the blog recently changed their code. It happens all the time at my workplace.

Looks like we already reach our high for today.

  11. I see someone is covering their bases again today. I'd love to have a system that forecasts multiple highs, so no matter what I'm always right! lol

  12. What are winds for today? The public forecast has 20 km/h, but CBC has 40 gusting 60! Too strong for boating.

  13. Not 40 gusting 60.

  14. No, more like 20 gusting 40 km/h this afternoon.

I've heard of a possible big cooldown sometime next week.
