Staying cold into next week.. then a warming trend

Southern MB will be locked into a cold weather pattern for the next little while until a moderating trend begins next week.  Temperatures this week will continue below normal (normal highs -13C, lows -23C) with a reinforcing shot of Arctic air this weekend when temperatures will struggle in the mid minus 20s, and lows in the minus 30s. This will be the longest stretch of below normal temperatures in southern MB since at least August. Long range guidance is hinting of a moderating trend by the middle of next week, with temperatures hopefully rising into the minus single digits by the end of the week.

  1. EC issued a severe cold cancellation at 7.44 this morning and then cancelled the cancellation a minute later. Their website was showing duplicate warnings for most of the morning which confused a couple of weather notification services that I have on my phone getting their info from the EC website.

    1. They're having issues with their warning software and the Weatheroffice website. There's a problem when updating the warnings which requires having to end the warning then re-issue them. It's a problem being looked into. Hopefully they have a fix soon.. as you say, it's causing confusion.

    1. Clipper coming in overnight into tomorrow. Looks like a band of snow pushing into Winnipeg around 4 am and lasting into 10 am or so. Could see a quick burst of 4 to 8 cm. Bad timing for the morning rush with snow covered roads and poor visibility in snow. Expect a slower commute. But things look better in the afternoon as our winds shift into the west and tap milder air over Saskatchewan pushing afaternoon temperatures to +1C or so. So a slushy messy commute tomorrow.
