Warming trend into holiday weekend..

The week is off to a chilly start over southern Manitoba with single digit temperatures and even some snowflurries in Winnipeg early this morning. Skies are expected to clear off overnight allowing for sub-freezing temperatures by Thursday morning. Thursday should be a much nicer day with sunshine, light winds and afternoon highs around 11-12C.. still well below normal for this time of year (normal highs now are near 20C), but much better than today's brisk single digit temperatures. Tomorrow will signal the beginning of a warming trend that will take us into the Victoria Day holiday weekend with temperatures climbing to the 20C mark by Sunday along with partly to mostly sunny skies. Unfortunately, it looks like wet weather will be moving in for holiday Monday with showers and temperatures in the mid teens.

  1. Just to add Rob, Finally though, I say Finally with cautious optimism, it does look to appear though it will stay relatively mild with & after this wet system on Monday unlike every other for the last several months, so maybe just maybe we are finally going to get into a more consistent normal weather pattern moving forward.

  3. Rob, it seems that GFS is hinting at severe thunderstorms next weekend for us. What are are your thoughts on this?

  4. Huntingdon, Quebec was up to 32.9C on May 15th. That is the highest temperature recorded this year in the country. Slowly but surely summer is arriving in Canada. LOL

  10. 30.3C in Rosetown, SK today.. hottest spot in Canada. Nice to finally see some heat building across the Prairies. We should easily hit 25-26C in Winnipeg Friday, and possibly flirting with 30C Saturday. Storms by Sunday. Note that the NAM, GFS and Euro are all giving us 30C+ weather (33C from the NAM) while the Cdn GLB is the coolest at 28C. Nice when 28C is on the low end of estimates!

    1. How high are the dewpoints forecast to be tomorrow?? Correct me if I'm wrong , but if one looks at the overnight low as sees....say 15C. I assume the dewpoints will be at least that high or higher??

    2. Dewpoints of 15-18C are progged over southern MB for tomorrow, with RDPS showing 20C dewpoints spreading over southeast RRV. These seem a bit high based on current dewpoints of 13-16C to our south today. Nonetheless it will be more humid than today. The big story tomorrow will be the heat.. should get an easy 30C in Winnipeg with an outside chance of 33C if clouds and convection can hold off until evening. Record high for tomorrow (May 24th) in Winnipeg is 32.7C in 1980.

  12. A very hot day out......Oh wait a minute , a very nice warm day out there in Southern Manitoba. 29 C at 3 pm. After this miserable winter and spring, I will refrain from use the term " hot" this summer. Unless it gets to about 45C, then I might grumble a just a little ;)
