Areas of dense fog are expected to redevelop after sunset, with locally near zero visibility at times tonight into Friday morning. Increasing cloud cover tonight may make the fog less widespread than the past two nights, but areas of fog are still expected. The fog has made for some poor travelling conditions, but has also created some dazzling wintery landscapes as trees become coated in a beautiful white layer of hoarfrost (see photo) Milder than normal weather is forecast through the weekend over southern MB before more normal temperatures move in next week.

Another foggy night tonight.. staying mild through the weekend..

Is it me, or the official road condition pages for both MB and ND. They appear to show Normal Winter Conditions for Pembina Hwy 75 and I 29 to Grand Forks?

ReplyDeleteThe latest ECMWF runs for the next while show very little in the way of cold air. The term "BALMY" is even being used to describe the outlook from Late February to early March on Accuweather website. ( Brent Anderson webpage)
Yep, if you believe the ECMWF runs, then we may as well call the winter of 11-12 over. Spring is just around the corner.

ReplyDeleteNo, not at the airport. We have a light NW flow coming off the snowpack, so I don't think the airport will even get above freezing today. Meanwhile, it's +3 or +4C to our southwest where's there's little snowpack. Even in the city, many places are getting close to or just above zero (including my place), but the airport will be colder than the rest of the city. That will become increasingly evident over the next few weeks as the stronger sun warms up the downtown core more than the snow covered outlying areas.

ReplyDeleteTemperature has really popped today in Winnipeg with that WSW wind. Up to +4C at YWG airport as of 1 pm, after failing to get above freezing yesterday. Don't think we'll hit a record high today (+7C), but "super Sunday" is certainly living up to its name in southern Manitoba today!
6.1 C here at my place in south at the moment. The sun is awesome, you can feel the heat now, I was sitting out on the porch in the sunshine with shorts, and opened up a couple windows in the house. I'd take this over -40 C any year.

Thanks rob! Hey do you know of any cold air invasions over the next week or so? The GFS 850mb is pointing to a few bursts of cold air from the arctic over the next few days.
ReplyDeleteWe have a cold front moving through overnight that will usher in colder weather tomorrow and Tuesday. We get another reinforcing shot of cold air for Thursday and Friday into next weekend, with a moderating trend next week.
