Storm system brings rain and snow to southern Prairies

The storm system affecting the eastern Prairies continues to spread rain into southern MB this morning, which turns to snow across the border into Saskatchewan. Snow will continue to fall across much of southeast and southcentral SK today into tonight with snowfall totals of 10-20 cm possible by Monday, and locally up to 25 cm over higher elevations south of Moose Jaw.

For southern MB, the story will be rain today which should continue most of the day. Rainfall amounts should be about 15-25 mm over SE Manitoba including Winnipeg, with 25-35 mm possible over parts of SW Manitoba.

  1. That is quite the rain shield!
Looks like Southern Manitoba will be stuck in a cold rain all day long!
Better that than a heavy wet snow

  2. A good 20-30 mm of rain across Winnipeg today..(24 mm at my place)

Interesting temperature gradient across Winnipeg and SE Manitoba this evening as that warm sector tries to push towards us. Southeast winds have raised temperatures up to a balmy 16C this evening in Steinbach, 14C in Beausejour, and 10-12C in east Winnipeg. Temperatures in Winnipeg may briefly climb into the 12-15C range this evening (especially eastern sections) if that warm front pushes a little further west.

  3. Is up to 17C in Steinbach right now. We only received 18.6mm of rain...

Since it was a rainy day I decided to fix the image on my website that displays rainfall. Rather than way overdoing the actual rainfall amounts, the broadcast, or current conditions graphic on the homepage actually shows the correct amounts.
