Another summery weekend on tap!

If you enjoyed last weekend's summery weather, you're going to like this weekend as well as Mother Nature serves up another stretch of sunny hot weather over southern MB. An area of unsettled weather over SW Manitoba today will give way to sunshine Friday that will last through the weekend into early next week as an upper ridge of high pressure builds over the Prairies. Daily highs will be near 30 degrees each day giving the Winnipeg airport site its best chance yet to finally hit the 30 degree mark this summer (I'm betting we'll hit 30 this weekend) Summer of 2008 ain't over yet!

  1. Just last weekend I predicted Winnipeg would not hit 30C in 2008.
Now Environment Canada is forecasting 3 out of the next 5 days will hit 30C. Amazing!

  2. Yep.. it's looking promising. We'll get close to 30C on Friday, but I think the airport has a better shot at 30C on Saturday as 850 temps climb to 18C and there's a light westerly flow which can add a degree or two with downslope warming. If not Saturday, then Sunday looks even better with a SW flow and 850 temps up to 20C. That should easily get us above 30C that day. Dewpoints are forecast to stay moderate in the midteens which would allow for maximum heating of the surface under full sunshine.

My predicted highs for YWG airport:

    Friday: 29C
    Saturday: 30C
    Sunday: 32C

Current guidance shows above normal temperatures continuing through next week.

  3. Perhaps it is too soon to say, but I think August might end up above normal. My station is already averaging 26.3C and the next few days will certainly boost that number.

The GFS is showing temperatures in the low to mid thirties for next week, maybe we will get some big storms out of this too!

  5. Winnipeg airport's high on Friday was 29.9C.. can't get any closer to an official 30 degree day! (The Forks was 30.2C) Today will be a degree or two warmer than yesterday, so this should be the airport's first official 30 degree day of the year. Then it looks like another 4 or 5 days of 30 degree weather! Took awhile but it's finally here (kind of like Canada's medals!)

  12. I for one will welcome the relief coming in September. Cooler nights without the bugs and days with autumn color.

  13. Temperature soared to 34.1C at my site.. although I think that was maybe a degree high from an official reading due to the sheltered sunny exposure at my site. Notice the convection firing up to our southeast along a weak cool front that pushed through this afternoon (which will temporarily end the 30 degree streak for tomorrow)

  16. hey rob, yes I noticed some cumulonimbus forming to our southeast last night around 6:30pm. Could see the distinct anvil shaped thunderheads. Cool you mentioned this as I noticed this last night but only off to the SE.
